About us

OUR MISSION

ACCESSIBLITY  FOR ALL!

To make Itasca County the most accessible county in Minnesota, while promoting our mission to the state and federal level.

Mobility Mania was born from the overwhelming response and feedback received after our Guinness Book of World Records wheelchair event held in May, 2015.  It was evident then as it is now, that people in wheelchairs need and want a voice.  Surveys were taken, public forums were held and feedback was solicited.  We just listened to people who live their lives every day in a wheelchair.  Four major areas were identified for improvements to make our community Accessible For All:

  • Lack of accessible, affordable transportation
  •  Access into and within buildings
  • Sidewalks, cutaways, trails and parking spaces
  • Awareness

We have been fighting for the “differently-abled” ever since.  What’s really been amazing is the overwhelming support we have received from the City of Grand Rapids, Itasca County and the entire community.  We truly believe with collaboration, we can make changes to better the lives of the “differently-abled” that will last for generations to come.  Thank you for your support of Accessibility For All!

How it all began:

On May 16, 2015, a Guinness Book of World Records was set in Grand Rapids when 351 people in wheelchairs rolled in a consecutive line for 3 minutes.  It is a record we are very proud to say we still hold today.  What started out to be a small fundraising event to obtain a handicapped accessible vehicle for Myrna Peterson and Lee Isaacs, the result was a massive gathering of the community and a call to better the lives of people in wheelchairs.  Folks came from near and far to participate and the entire community opened its heart to this event.  We were truly blessed by people and businesses that donated items, time and support.  The City of Grand Rapids graciously helped with whatever was needed to follow all of the rules set forth by Guinness.  The event started a revolution where Mobility Mania and the motto of “Accessibility For All” was born.  We continue to thank all the people, businesses and leadership that support our vision of an accessible community for all!
